Dear Colleagues,
Thank you to all UCU members who attended the emergency branch meeting yesterday (Thursday) afternoon at such short notice. We had a very good turnout and many members had sent their apologies as they were unable to attend at such short notice.
Clearly staff are shocked at the scale and timing of the announcement of the college' intentions to introduce compulsory redundancies and there was an opportunity for members at the meeting to raise a range of concerns.
After discussion the UCU branch unanimously adopted the following resolution:
· Chesterfield College UCU branch instructs its branch officers to immediately seek the withdrawal of the threat of compulsory redundancies at the college as outlined in the statement of 25/4/2013.
· Specifically we seek the withdrawal of Curriculum Model 4, which as the Provisional Report to the SMT states threatens to significantly destabilise the college, compromise success rates and a successful inspection & put remaining managers under significant workload strain.
· In the event that such threats are not withdrawn, Chesterfield College UCU branch authorises the branch officers to start the process to commence an industrial action ballot.
Chesterfield College UCU branch will seek to coordinate campaigning activities with the other campus unions, the national and regional bodies of UCU and the wider trade union movement.
UCU and the other unions will be meeting with the college management next week to seek to resolve the issues at the college without compulsory redundancies. We will keep members up to date with all developments.
